He whole farm But when she arranges to meet up with a friend she's made online she discovers all is not as it seemsL. Chicken clicking was read out aloud to my PGCE group in an English lesson All of us thoroughly enjoyed the book and the surprise within itThe story is about a little chick who sneaks into a farmer s house and begins to use his computer The chicken continues to visit the house on several occasions and clicks away at purchasing many goodies for hisher farm friends From teapots to diamonds and even holidays for the farmer s bull The chick s online shopping spree was highly amusing and I believe this would be a shared opinion with KS1early KS2 children too The book takes a surprising and slightly dark turn when the chick purchases another chick friend she adds a photo of herself and other details about herself such as her age and name The chick then agrees to meet her new friend in the woods WITHOUT telling mum or dad Readers would be shocked to find out that the chick s new friend was not a chick at all but actually a hungry wolf typical children s villain The story end

Summary Chicken Clicking

Ittle Red Riding Hood for the iPad generation this is the perfect book for teaching children how to stay safe online. I get that this is a lesson book on why you shouldn t run off alone to meet someone you met online without telling anyone but there are several problems with the way this book attempts to get the message acrossFirst of all most of the book is about frivolous online shopping It ends abruptly when the chicken meets the person they were talking to online and it turns out to be a fox But since the fox is just sitting there drinking tea on a blanket I m not even sure that kids would necessarily understand that the fox means the chicken harm After all there are a lot of books out there about not judging others by their appearanceWhich leads me to the bigger issue this book sends the message that you will be able to recognize a predator when you see one because they will be scary looking when in fact many predators go out of their way to look harmless Ted Bundy for example or to send a harmless looking accomplice to bring you to a private locationIn my opinion the best way t

One night Chick hops onto the farmer's house and has a browse on his computer CLICK soon she's shopping online for t. Hey kids Wanna be terrified of the internet Here s a book for you This book is ridiculous I heartily support children s books actually tackling real world issues like how to navigate technology without traumatizing yourself But there are plenty of real world dangers on the internet without over dramatizing the most Dateline centric ones The message of this book is this spoiler I guess if you go online you will become a compulsive shopper then you will be murdered by a stranger you meet in the woods Christ Stranger danger 20 Cool message But also why does the book shift from online shopping to predation The logic is not flowing there And yes we don t want kids to fall prey to online predators but this is sooooo heavy handed And the reality is most kids are not going to be abducted by weirdos they meet on social media so this just seems like indulgent fear mongering about technology a giant pet peeve of mine However parents will probably love it because it seems so hip

Wrapped up a lesson on digital citizenship with this book and found it to be pretty effective Because we began with Once Upon a TimeOnline we were able to bring it around to remind ourselves that the internet isn't bad per se but kids need to make sure an adult is in the loop any time they use the internet Chick goes to meet her new friend without telling dad or mum In classes we also concluded that there are plenty of awesome things to do
